October 4, 2009 Creativity in Business Conference

Creativity in Business Conference in DC October 4th!

I am excited to be attending this groundbreaking conference - the first-of-its-kind in DC! Join pioneering entrepreneurs, innovators and applied-creativity leaders from around the country for a full-day event focused on individual, group & organizational creativity in business. Hooks Book Events friend Dan Pink turned me on to Michelle James and this DC based group.

Hooks Book Events is all about discussing new ideas which is why I am attneding to meet an amazing roster of thought leaders and writers who are focused on creativity in the work place. Come hear Dr. Stan Gryskiewicz, author of Positive Turbulence: Developing Climates for Creativity, Innovation and Renewal; Dr. Win Wenger, author of The Einstein Factor and 40 other books; author Mike Bonifer, author of GameChangers: Improvisation for Business in a Networked World; Paul Scheele, author of Natural Brilliance; and many others.

Did you realize that creativity is widely considered the new capital of 21st century business? New ideas, new innovations, new systems and new structures depend on accessing novel levels of creativity - for everyone, not just the creatives. At the conference, Michelle and her panelists will explore different facets of creativity as the key driver in navigating and thriving in the new work paradigm. Join area entrepreneurs, leaders, managers, learning/innovation officers, trainers, and consultants, who want to be more innovative and adaptive in the changing world of work.

Check out the website for more details and to register. Hope to see you there! PPH

August, 2009 HBE Heads South for Four Days in 'BAMA!

Just back from a trip to Alabama .. Livingston, Eutaw, Demopolis, Birmingham and Bessemer to be specific! Have been down South researching a distant relative Miss Ruby Pickens Tartt, nationally renowned painter, writer and folklorist who collaborated with the WPA Federal Writers' Project and John Lomax during the Depression. Miss Ruby was a real wonder and has occupied a corner in my mind for some time now; so I thought I better head South to check it out. You can Google her to learn more about her recordings, writings and paintings.. she was ahead of her time and a real inspiration to many while she was alive and even now.

She would have been pleased that I took some pals from Birmingham to Bessemer on Saturday night to a bona fide juke joint, Gip's Place where I managed to meet Mr. Gipson (88 years cool - grave digger by day, bluesman by night) in his back yard singing and playing in his tin roofed shack. Music was blaring, bourbon was flowing, fish were frying and dancing was going on! Even good buddy and writer, Diane McWhorter made the scene as she was home in 'Bama working on her next book. You can find Gip on line.. he even has a MySpace page!
